Walking a tightrope

We have been married for 20 years in August. We were recently reflecting on how some people actually have comfortable, predictable lives. It sounds so alien to us.
When we got married all those years ago, we had no idea what we were signing up to.

Tightrope

Unless you live under a rock I guess you have seen The Greatest Showman. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for a few weeks now. The kids even sing along having learned the songs at school.
I was driving back from a difficult appointment and the words to this song really struck a chord.

Some people long for a life that is simple and planned
Tied with a ribbon
Some people won’t sail the sea ’cause they’re safer on land
To follow what’s written
But I’d follow you to the great unknown
Off to a world we call our own
Hand in my hand and we promised to never let go
We’re walking the tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We’re walking the tightrope
Never sure, never know how far we could fall
But it’s all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking the tightrope
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you
Mountains and valleys, and all that will come in between
Desert and ocean
You pulled me in and together we’re lost in a dream
Always in motion
So I risk it all just to be with you
And I risk it all for this life we choose
Hand in my hand and you promised to never let go
We’re walking the tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We’re walking the tightrope
Never sure, will you catch me if I should fall?
Well, it’s all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking the tightrope
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you, ooh-ooh-ooh
With you

As soon as I got home I sent my hubby the lyrics. Yes, our life together is unpredictable and chaotic at times, but we have had so many adventures along the way so far.
Hand in my hand and we promised to never let go. All those years ago we promised to stick by each other. Most people with my diagnosis are not able to maintain relationships let alone be married for so long. I am so lucky to have the man I have. That despite all the ups and downs he has chosen to stand beside me. I think we may be older and wiser but also maybe a bit sillier!

Looking forward to the next 20 years with my gorgeous hubby, living this risky adventure together.
