So I’m thinking of getting my first tattoo and I’ve been thinking what I would like. I’ve seen a few of really nice forearm quote tattoos and been thinking what quote has shaped my life for a long time. Sat in church this morning I was thinking about simply the word Freedom but another phrase popped in my head.
For such a time as this.
The longer quote is … and who knows whether that you have come to the kingdom for such as time as this?
It comes from a story about a young girl called Esther. Her parents died and she was put into the care of her Uncle Mordecai. A call goes out across Persia from the king that all the young women should be taken to the palace to see if the king wanted them as the new Queen. After a year of beauty treatments and preparations she was chosen above all the other women to be Queen of Persia.
Whilst she was Queen a mass genocide of her people was planned. As a Queen she could have kept quiet about her heritage and lived out her life in the palace.
The only way she could stop this genocide was to identify with her people and risk her life. She did she revealed her identity and in that she saved her people.
I have a strong belief that all of us can make a difference in this world. That our actions can either help or hinder others. That we are uniquely placed in geographical locations, and relationship circles and born at this precise time to make a difference. That each of our lives matter and small actions like simply encouraging others CAN make a difference.
So I may get that tattoo after all.
